To be honnest the last 2 years were allready quite much focused on family even if I had goals at WOC 10 in Trondheim. I didn't do choices that could help me to increase my performances at WOC actually, like moving to Lofoten during past winter. But I don't regret those choices anyway. My performances at WOC were OK but not as good as I was dreaming. I had the opportunity to make top 10 but I missed because of 2 bad routechoices on middle final (1min lost each). Anyway, my shape was really good and I could enjoy my last WOC.

Then NM in Beitostolen was my last race under Kristiansand OK colors. Here I performed really good. This was this kind of performances I was expecting at WOC but I guess I was better prepared to the NM terrain which was much more nordic than WOC middle distance final terrain. It was a good feeling to run so good for my last races with the best Elite club I have been with. 5th place in middle was my best race this year and the relay was a good team race. We did good with 4th place, we were not having the best team this year but we did our best, that's all. It is not easy to leave such a good club with so many good people (not only the best runners I mean). KOK was a huge inspiration for me the last 3 seasons. Thanks so much to all KOK members. I warmly recommend young elit runners to move there to improve themself on rough sørlandet terrain. Barbara and Pascal were very helpfull with training plans and so on. I understand easily that Pascal is now working for the Swiss team, he deserves it.

New life: since NM, I should say, it has not been so many proper trainings. 1 or 2 maybe. I am mostly taking care of my childs on daytime and WE. It is challenging too. I am more focused on diapers than training. My timeschedule is short, so the possibilities to The only "training" I do, is biking to the kindegarden twice a day carying the kids on the trolley. It is pretty heavy I can tell you. Specially the climbing back home and even more since there is snow. It is cold now but biking is still possible. I wonder if this "training" can be enought though the winter to be in OK shape at Tiomila. Of course, I will train more after X-mass. At least twice a week with KOL. I will prepare the mondays trainings with some indoor technical training with map included into the strength training as we used to do with Pôle France when Michel Gueorgiou was in charge.

New projects:

- first, I am changing club to Kongsberg O-lag. There I want to help young runners to develop themself. In order to develop those young talents, I am going to be involved as the headcoach for 15-18 years old group which is about 25 peoples totally. In addition, the exchange program KOL for young runners from abroad was successfull last year and they would like to continue the project. I am very proud to see how the all club was involved in this project. KOL is a big club with so large ressources. See all details here. Fell free to contact us to ask for questions.

It will be also a nice challenge to develop the relay team for Tiomila and Jukola. I will try to learn them a bit of what I learned myself in OK Denseln then in KOK. Top 20 could be nice goal in 5 years perspectiv.

- second, I am now a bit working for Norwegian national team on WOC 2011 project as a consultant. Meanly logistics works but also some technical aspects. This Friday, I am doing a lecture at Camp Norway about WOC 2011 in France. How to train, where to train, what to expect,...

- third, is to try to help KOL with Pinseløppet. It is a great 3-days event, each easter week-end. Nice terrains, nice maps, many runners. It is huge possibilities to enjoy the Kongsberg terrain through this competition. It is quite a few people from abroad and that's a pity. I would try to get involved in this organisation too if I get enough time in order to get more people from other countries. I have many ideas but quite a little time right now.

- fourth, I am trying to market my parents holiday appartment rental in the orienteering community. The house is 1500m over sea level in Pyrénées, nearby Font-romeu in France, where Tommi Tölkkö has been mapping last 2 summers. Maps are about 1800 to 2200m over sea level) and more maps are coming next years. It is good training facilities there and nice terrain. Nice also in winter for alpin skiing and XC skiing. I was there in end of october, nice weather, a bit snow some days. I met Philippe Adamski there who was checking the maps drawn by Tommi so far. I was flying from Oslo to Barcelona direct with Norwegian, then 2h driving. Ryan air is olso flying to Girona airport a bit north of Barcelona.

All those projects are very much office work: seeting in front of a computer working. A bid change in life! I am looking forward to start the youth project in Kongsberg then I will be more in contact with runners and real people...

Hopefully WOO is helping me to keep in touch with O-world and friends. I am looking forward to Road to X-mass and "The Orienteering Achivement of 2010"

Difficult to choose the best achivement this year. I was really stressed when I didn't know where I was. My mistake was mostly due to the stress I guess. my plan was to go through the narrow marsh then crossing the path. But I went to high first so I picked wrong narrow marsh and the second one I though was the path. Then I was looking for the track. I was panicking first. Then I though it was only possible that I was too high. So, I went down and found the track.

The second part went OK even if the tempo was bad. I didn't miss but didn't run with a good flow. It was very strange feeling, like I didn't have really contact with the map and terrain. I was in the shadow the all way. Maybe the stress due to WOC is changing my habits. I havn't done so bad race since ... maybe NM relay last year. Relax!!! Take it easy!

Between 6th and 7th, I ran through a 4m cliff and felt down. AGAIN!!!! Very strange to do it again. I guess I am a bit late on the decision making so I read the map at the wrong time. I hurted my elbow and my back. The pain was OK to reach the finish line and make the final.

The most important was to make the final. Of course it would have been nice to start at the end of the field. In the other hand, I did my best run at WOC middle in 2004 while I was starting first og the final.

I still believe my shape and skill are good enough to make a good result on satursday. The point is to run nice all the way.
Today, I am running intervals without map (3x(5x(50/30))) and tomorow 5x 1km on the model event map. On thursday, I will run the last WOC tour race in order to get a good feeling on the Granåsen map.Damien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-37994225474918740222010-08-07T17:38:00.007+02:002010-08-07T18:10:49.465+02:00Last trainings in TrondheimThe french team arrived on thursday and we did 2 sessions on Iladalen (Thursday evening and friday afternoon). It is a really nice map: very challenging and amazing landscape.

I ran a course made by Pascal and organised by the Kongsberg juniors.

It was my last middle distance before WOC, so I tried to made it as it was WOC final.

I ran not really good to the first and 6th and had some problems to see the flags when they were down (3rd and 7th). On the 11th I did a 2min mistake by loosing my focus when the terrain was changing from very open (easy navigation with lakes...) to a dense area where the direction in to the circle was very important. I was not able to relocated fast and didn't know to look. After this, I was a bit upset by myself. I pushed a little extra uphill to the 12th and then to 13th. I was reading the map when I run over a cliff. I though I had one more foot to do before jumping down about 1,5/2m but I was not... So, I lost the balance and felt 2m down. I landed on the side while my head hurted first the ground. Hopfully it was really soft there. Nothing to hurt me... I was really lucky. Anyway, I had some pain in the head and didn't succeed to restart running. I had to quit the training and drive home. After a good night sleep, I had no more pain on my back and in the head.

Yesterday, I went to the first Kongsberg OL training after the summer holidays. It was a sprint starting in the forest. Nice course and quite a good speed. It was a good session before WOC even if I am not running sprint at WOC.Damien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-1389835589916971382010-07-30T14:18:00.008+02:002010-07-30T15:38:26.297+02:00Back from Hovden

After 5 days in Hovden, I am back in Kongsberg to finish the preparation to WOC Middle.
It has been a really good training period in Hovden with some nice o-sessions and top run.
The surroundings are very nice when you run to the tops. I was not there so I could use them. I liked a lot to run on Bykle map (WC 2007 where I ran to 6th place) again. The terrain is nice and very challenging.
I was training without control flags, so, I had to be very accurate even with full speed. On the last session, I did a direction mistake so, I was no sure where I went. The GPS track said I was not right. The area was difficult to understand but I should have had a better direction. That the main focus I shall keep at WOC. It will be diffuses areas too at WOC and I need to succeed to keep the right direction through it. I am looking forward to WOC now. It is still some key sessions to come to get fit to the D-day! Look at my training plan if you wish.

It was great to spend time together with the family as well. Nice summer weather made it very cool but a bit windy. So, I decided to stay at home to rest first, to be with my family a little bit more (7 days home since 9th of may...) instead of travelling to Saint Etienne area to challenge the young guys for sprint places at WOC.

This ended up at I was not picked to Sprint WOC. I was ready for this but still a little bit desappointed. That means 3 young french we run only sprint at WOC. I have been selected to the middle distance and I am reserve to relay. Philippe, François and Thierry will run long, middle and relay. Anyway, I am still very motivated to run the relay and will be ready for it with necessary. In some way, I am happy not to run Sprint, then I can focus better on middle and relay. A place at WOC middle distance start is really nice to have. Some of my friends didn't made it. I got the distance I wanted most (except relay of course).

After having recovered from Nordic tour, I have started my last training bloc to WOC. This was made by Pascal Vieser, as he was planning my training this winter too. My last bloc is mainly built around Sørlandsgaloppen and Nordvestgaloppen (Fjord-O). At those 2 multidays races, it was very good possibilities to test myself on 35-55min runs. At Sørlandsgaloppen, I ran good the 2 first days and very good on last days. The chasing start was good to add a little presure. My team mates were there to help me to feel the pressure. Thanks to Eirik to have run the 3 races.
I was a little bit surprise by the quite little amount of runners. The competition standard was very good: maps/courses were really nice, arena were good and the lovely summer weather from south Norway was there 2 of the 3 days.

At Nordvestgaloppen, I had decide to run the 2 first days on short class and the 2 last on normal class, in order to fit better my WOC distances. It worked out very good. I was maybe not so high challenge to run short class even if it was the same course as the women Elits. I had a good speed and the races were nice and challenging. The last 2 days were a bit of a test for my speed. I am feeling very good in the marshy terrain. The speed was good and the technic was OK. I did some mistakes, you can check the GPS tracking here. I need to improv a little bit until the next 3 days in order to reach my goal. It is the first time that I am feeling so good in front of a WOC. In time! It is the last one for me!

we have been driving along the west coast of Norway to enjoy the beauty of our new country the last 2 days. On the way, I ran a short course of the Vestlandsmesterskap near Førde which is organised on the 21 and 22th of august this year. It was a very nice course and map. I recommend it very much.

Now, we are spending 5 days in Hovden where I can train hard on marshy ground and adjust the technic too one courses made by Pascal too. Then I will be back in Kongsberg for the last 2 weeks were the last trainings will be done. I have a nice test races which I will run the last week end, made by Pascal and put out by the Kongsberg juniors. Thanks to them!Damien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-74974057334015391482010-06-17T10:20:00.007+02:002010-06-17T22:27:05.268+02:00World cup - Nordic tour
The real season is now starting.

Tonight I am running my first World Cup race this year. I am looking forward to build my shape to WOC. The training has been good in Kongsberg since we have moved back. I did 2 training camps in Trondheim so far and I feel pretty confident with my skill. I feel a little bit in the training modus and Nordic tour is perfect timing to enter to the competition spirit.

Report after the race:

Not a good race today! I didn't manage the preparation during the day and was out allready before the race. I was having stomack problems while running. Anyway I could have manage a better result without mistakes. Finally, both technic and speed were missing.

I will rest good until Jukola and focus on the technical challenge you will meet this WE. I am running 6th leg on the secong team from KOK. I was not at the test races for Jukola in Kristiansand last week because I decided to train in Trondheim instead. It is no problem for me to run on 2nd team. First because we have rules to pick the team and I didn't follow them and second because we have a really good team. I hope we can make the top 15.

On Tuesday, it will be again a special race but hopefully I will do better.
Then back home in Kongsberg on wednesday before the final in Raufoss.

Map and report from WorldOfO.com

Damien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-72516116103320204002010-02-26T21:50:00.009+01:002010-02-26T22:13:11.326+01:00MathisMathis is born today: 26/02/2010
He came on a sunny day over Lofoten.
It was nice to drive through Lofoten to get to the hospital (1h15 to drive) near Leknes.

It is now time to rest and pack to move back to Kongsberg.

2010 has started really nice with a nice, healthy boy and very good training so far for myself with very much strength and intervals trainings mostly inside I should say.

I hope the O-season is going to be nice as well.

I am really happy to move back to Kongsberg soon to get ready for the biginning of the season with NM natt in Halden, test races in Clermont-ferrand in France and then Tiomila.Damien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-71195849706044845372009-09-09T12:07:00.003+02:002009-09-09T13:35:19.032+02:00Friskhuset Svolvær as new partnerI got a new partner today which will for sure help me to reach my goals in WOC 2010. After a long journey back from Miskolc, I was very happy to find my family in good shape after they have moved from Kongsberg to Svolvær while I was at WOC. I have spend some days to fix our new home in order to get a nice place to be during the looong winter which in front of us. No sun from december 6th to january 6th....

I am now use to train at morning after biking to kindergarten to deliver Elise. Then I can run in the suroundings of the town. When it is clear enought, I am running to a top. It is just unbelievable here. So nice views everywhere.

Today, I took a longer run (1h50 with 1h05 uphill) up to Rundefjellet which is 802 meter over the sea level because of a totally blue sky. I started from sea level. It is one of the highest top where you can run/walk without to climb. See pictures and map.

Next WE, I am taking part in my first Norwegian championship. I mean within the rules!
I am looking forward to run with my club mates from KOK again at the relay. It has been a long time know from Jukola.

Unfortunatly, it will be the last competition for Pascal and Barbara as KOK trainers. I am sad but life is life. I am very thanksfull for those 2 years I had with them at KOK Elit. They are great people and really good trainers: not only on success, also when it hurts. Thanks you and good luck in Switzerland.

KOK is now looking for a new and creativ coach. KOK Elit board would be please to get as many application to the job as possible. Feel free to apply!Damien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-53084367733849109042009-08-21T08:24:00.004+02:002009-08-21T08:50:43.567+02:00WOC finals
With 2 places around 30th place, my WOC is over now. It doesn't taste so good to me but I am pretty please with the races I have ran. It was good races technically but too weak physically. I knew it before coming there. With bad winter training, it is really hard to fight for a top 15. This is very good to our sport I think. More people able to fight for medals.
I have been please to take part. Specially the sprint final was really challenging both technically and physically. Andrey is the king for sure. The course was a good challenge: lot of direction and speed changes. I didn't manage to get the sprint tempo necessary in those tricky ZOO areas. The middle was a though race for me. I have done very few mistakes. The first control was my biggest mistake, 30sec. But my worth mistake was actually a too weak strategy regarding the beginning of the race. I didn't warm-up hard enought then I got to much acid in my legs on the first uphill and this gave me very bad feelings and speed the all way.
It is a good start to WOC next year. A good base to train on.
The french guys looked very strong this morning. The relay is going to be intresting as usual. It is my first WOC relay from the outside. Strange feelings. Go hard guys!
Tomorow
I am travelling back home to Norway. Not back to Kongsberg, because we have move to Svolvaer in Lofoten. I am looking forward to be there. The beginning of the week was good with 2 technic training per day with François and Thierry. Anyway, I had big troubles on World Cup middle distance. I was running too slow and making too many mistakes. It seams taht my expectations are too high and push me to take too much risks. It was a lot of opportunity on this race to make a top 10 which is what I can expected the best from me right now. But I am looking for better results and I try to get this perfect race/shape to rich it. It seams to be the wrong tactic. So far...

The long was just a good training to built self confidence again. I knew it was too long for me, specially regarding WOC preparation. I am going to run Sprint, Middle and Relay at WOC so, I need to be fresh this week to train really hard. The part I ran on the long was going well. I was feeling much better than the day before.

Finally a real good race on the relay. We are back on the very top with KOK. We did 4 very solide races. Jostein, John and Baptiste did a great job after my first leg. It is the race standard we are expecting to rich at Tiomila and Jukola in order to be in front. Definatly, John should ran Tio and Juko with us. Come on John!!! So, self confidence is much better now and I am looking forward to the next 3 weeks of good training until WOC. WOC relay is my main goal this year.

Maps and routes from O-festivalen
Results from O-festivalen
World cup pageDamien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-82741276652835915852008-06-17T20:01:00.009+02:002008-06-17T20:49:51.108+02:00CFC and Jukola<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5dNlrSR50X8/SFgA6GyuTuI/AAAAAAAAAdo/CfSGvsqQkiU/s320/normal_20080614-3T4Y7413LR.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212917566937124578" />10 days ago, I was taking part to the French Club Championship organisation. After EOC, I spent most of my time working on this organisation. The organising club was NOSE fom Saint Etienne. I was involved in this organisation for a long time, almost a year. My work was mostly communication and animation, as speaker together with Thibaut Magne. We tried to make it as a little Jukola. our expectations were high and I can say, we did it good. Of course, it was some small problems but we made the competition very nice and the arena was nice built to follow the battle between the best clubs. Unluckly, we had an extremly bad weather which affected the competitor's feeling.

I was extremly tired after this organising WE while sleeping only 2-3h 3 nights in a row. I had to sleep almost the all week in order to get in cheap for Jukola. My training has been affected by this and I can say now, that it was not professionnal to not sleep enough during CFC WE. I was too much involved in this to be clever enough about resting.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5dNlrSR50X8/SFgAvYt-xGI/AAAAAAAAAdg/d1bppXnotmY/s320/normal_20080614-20080614-3T4Y7363LR_DxOfulljpegs_RAWLR.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212917382770508898" />KOK'er were meeting on Wednesday afternoon in Tampere. We had to drive 1h to get to the accomodation. It was a nice place just north of one training map. As we won Tiomila, we were expecting to rich top 3. We were focusing pretty much on our own. I was feeling good with the team spirit. It was a little more stressfull than at Tiomila. I think we were too much thinking that we could win. I havn't run extremly well. After my run, I thought I did well but in fact I was missing more than 1,5 min on control 6 because I lost my direction and I struggled to get back on the right direction. I found some tracks that I followed but they were not the one maped. It was new tracks from Jukola runners. I didn't noticed it and lost to much time there. It seams than only Holger ran well enough to close the gap to the leading teams. I think Baptiste and me could have run better (3-4min each) which means giving Daniel apportunity to make a better team result. As usual, loosing so much time on first leg was making trouble on other runners performances. Most of us didn't run our real level. It was possible to run better and close some gap to the lead. We have to improve our fighting spirit on bad situation. But meaning better technical performances and not taking any extra risk.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5dNlrSR50X8/SFgB1ITML2I/AAAAAAAAAdw/VgkZyjjZW5s/s320/DR-jukola.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212918580954017634" />

GPS Tracking
Results

Let see if French football team can qualify on a very bad situation and show us that we can alway believe...

Coming next is world cup in Oslo. The Russians and Swiss were also as expected the strongest teams. For our team, it is not good enough to make us happy. We did each one of us 1 min mistake. It is not much on this technical terrain but enough to be out of the podium. Our goal was clearly the gold. In order to make it, we need the 2 first legs to be the best possible. We can't expect Thierry to win with more than 2 minutes gap to the leading teams before he starts. The good point is that we manage to fight for the victory the all way. It is a long time ago now, we haven't been so close. Actually, our last good relay was EOC 2 years ago (2nd). The last 2 relays at WOC 2006-2007 were not very good. It seems we are back in business. It is good for WOC relay.

I was running first leg which is not usual for us. We had 17 relays (at WOC, EOC, WC) with the same team and the same order, last few years. We changed today because we wanted more flexibility in our team. Also, young guys (Philippe and Vincent) were running good on 2nd team. It is promising for future of our team. We need more than 3 guys able to run the relay.

It went well for me. I started as planed, very carefully on the sand dunes area. I was well focus all the way and try not to overspeed. It was not easy to do it, because I had quite long forking. So, I decided not to focus on this and make my own race. Afterwords, it seams I should have speed up a little to close the gap to the Swiss (Baptiste) and the Russian before spectator's control. The last loop was challenging orienteering. I manage it well until the pre-warning. Then, I lost focusing and map contact. I was very narrow minded when coming to the 18th control area. I didn't expect the area to look like this and I had to relocate which cost me about 1 min. It was a pity making a mistake here because I was 1 min from the front group at finish.

I expected more mistakes from the other teams because I though it was quite challenging specially at full speed. But the teams were very close from each other like in Ukraine last year (5 teams in 2min23sec).

EOC relay results

Coming next WE is organizing French club championship in Saint-Etienne and then Jukola/O-festival. It will be pretty important now to train well the next weeks and to get some competition trainings with full speed in France in order to get good feeling with WOC terrain. We are lucky to have WOC similar terrains in Saint-Etienne. I won't travel to Tchec republic before WOC.Damien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-5494846454734961032008-05-30T17:47:00.003+02:002008-06-01T16:04:48.702+02:00Bad at EOC... again<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5dNlrSR50X8/SEAiJThzqnI/AAAAAAAAAcs/sfUlwE2IeLA/s400/Qualif+M1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5206198712496532082" />
After disappointing spring qualification, I did bad run again today. I was close to qualify but far away from a good technical race. I had a nice feeling physically and technically before the race. After a good start (expect some seconds lost on first control because of a slow/safe start, I passed the river and run over the hills to the yellow depressions. Then, I was sleeping off when entering the green area. My focus was away from map reading. I didn't stop at this stage in order to relocate precisely then, my navigation was too unsure to get directly to the control. Loosing focusing after a good start and not stopping to relocate is one of my biggest weakness in orienteering.

I really struggle to relocate while being very close from the control. I met Thierry when he punched his control some 50m from mine but didn't get the position of this control on my map. I started to get stress by this situation because the qualifications are pretty tough on men class nowadays. I thought I could get it fast without relocating far from this place. But I used more than 2min to finally find it. A fast relocation would have cost me max 1min.

Then I have been caught by Jarkko. I had no other option to push really hard in front of him to get to the final. But I knew I had very few chances and I had no other possible mistake. I managed to run very well until control 12th where I was reading control 14th instead. So, it took about half a minute to notice it on control area. Jarkko pasted me but I didn't saw him. I had no more chances to get to the final but I tried anyway. I caught Jarkko again on control 17th and had a good last part.

My o-technic is not stable actually or should I say my capacity to focus by myself for 35 minutes is not good enough. I need to improve it. It is not new for me but it is specially true when it is qualifications. But it is not time to think to deep about it. I is still races to come. I will have to make some analysis later on.

I am still very motivated for relay on sunday which is my main goal during this EOC. I have a good shape now and I will put myself together to focus enough during the relay race.

Route Gadget on EOC websiteDamien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-64850091534579796402008-05-27T08:36:00.008+02:002008-05-28T16:30:44.325+02:00Better than qualification<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5dNlrSR50X8/SDutIjhzqhI/AAAAAAAAAaE/cTBP6SD8Jmw/s320/26052008239.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5204944156844337682" />I did much better on B-final than on qualification and get 3rd place. It was a fast and pretty easy sprint.

I have to improve quite a lot on easy sprint in order to be competitive. It is small details (like 5sec mistakes) which makes ranks on top 10. I am use to run more technical sprints because I like it more but I can wait to get the perfect sprint to perform. So, I need to get better on those pretty easy sprints. I have pretty good team mates in KOK (Daniel for sure) who can teach me a little more about the way to get faster on this kind of races. Physical aspect is very important of course but I think technical aspect is important too. When it is easy, I usually sleep off after some controls on make small navigation or direction mistake because I am not one step ahead. It is more difficult for me to stay focus when it is easy orienteering. Sprints in Norway are quite easy usually, so it will help me to get better to take part on sprint competitions in Norway.

Now, I have 3 days rest before the next event (Middle). It will take it easy today and run 30-45min on tracks. I am in good shape to face the WE events and not running the long will help me to still feel fresh before my main goals: Relay and Middle.

Route Gadget on EOC websiteDamien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-43927834124313319082008-05-26T12:09:00.010+02:002008-05-27T09:37:01.544+02:00Bad start at EOC<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5dNlrSR50X8/SDqM6ThzqbI/AAAAAAAAAY0/hoqQwd5LoCk/s320/26052008236.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5204627252682402226" />I didn't qualify on EOC sprint this morning. I struggled on understanding the map on 2 places and lost 13sec and 28sec. I had an early start for recovering purpose; it is why I was starting 2nd on heat B. Already at the finish, I new I was struggling to get to final. 8sec was the margin to make it.

I am a little sad because I was running well and had to face 2 maps imperfections but I was not clever enough to see them. It was an entrance on a fence to control 6 which was difficult to see on the terrain. I entered the forbidden garden instead. Between controls 9 and 10, it was a big tent (permanent) missing on the map. I had a bad direction out of the control 9 and I ran 50m souther than control 10. I had problem to relocate and lost much time there. I have to say that map was not making the race 100% fair. Anyway, it was the same for everyone and most made it. Not me! Nothing to complain about. Of course, we could wish small imperfections like that should not happen next time.

I am running B-final tonight to make it more positive than it is right now. It is a good training for WOC sprint to run twice today and for EOC relay on Sunday. I am still looking forward for next races.

Congratulation to the French finalists: Thierry, François, Thibaut and specially to Frédéric (still junior).

Route Gadget on EOC websiteDamien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2608175473052949582.post-28115787753299779382008-05-24T19:50:00.003+02:002008-05-25T19:28:24.987+02:00Vi ses KongsbergWe had a great time last 2 months living in Kongsberg with the all family. Thanks to all KOL members for your help and good spirit. I am looking forward to come back in August for a real life here.

Now, it is time to focus on EOC. I had a good peparation last weeks. Thanks Pascal for your tips. I am looking forward to the international season starting. We have high expectation with French team.

I have been running good in relay this year. JK, Norwegian spring and Tiomila went very well and I feel confident on our chances to succeed also in EOC. Relay is my main goal this year. EOC is first step to WOC relay. Jukola and Norsk O-festival will be the last preparation to the WOC.

It is my first news and I hope I can add news often specially with Garmin GPS online training book and maps.

2 of my last 3 O-trainings with Kongsberg O-lag (only the second was full speed):
2008-05-15
2008-05-20Damien Renardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10044915350539347591noreply@blogger.com3
